MegaBuffer — Privacy Policy

MegaBuffer is a Windows app that shows your text tiles and the history of things you copied next to the mouse cursor. Everything it stores stays on your computer. The app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and does not connect to the internet.

What the app stores on your computer

• Tiles and settings — your text tiles, groups, colors, hotkey, language, theme and options, in a settings file (%APPDATA%\МегаБуфер\megabufer.json for the installer version; the app’s package data folder for the Microsoft Store version). A backup copy is kept next to it so settings can be restored if the file gets damaged.
• Copied images — while saving is on (it is on by default and can be paused at any time from the panel, the tray menu or Settings), images you copy are saved as PNG files into the cache folder you choose (by default Pictures\МегаБуфер). File names include the name of the app the image was copied from, for example Chrome_calm.mint.fox_004.png.
• Image files copied in File Explorer — when you copy image files in File Explorer (PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, WebP, TIFF; up to 50 at a time), a copy of each file is saved to the same cache folder in its original format. The original files stay where they are; the app does not record where they came from.
• Copied text — only if you turn it on. “Save copied text” is off by default for new users. When it is on, copied text is saved as .txt files in the same folder. (If you used version 1.13, where it was on by default, your previous choice is kept; you can turn it off in Settings.)
• History list — a small file history.json next to the settings records which files the app created, their size, a checksum, the time, the source app name and whether you pinned them or dragged them into another app. It is used so cleanup deletes only files the app created.

Passwords and private content

Many password managers mark copied passwords as private for clipboard tools. MegaBuffer skips content with these markers (ExcludeClipboardContentFromMonitorProcessing, CanIncludeInClipboardHistory, Clipboard Viewer Ignore). Not every app sets them, so this does not guarantee that every password is recognised. Pause saving before copying something sensitive, or keep “Save copied text” off.

What the app does not do

• It does not send any data anywhere and makes no network requests (built-in browser spell-checking, which would download dictionaries, is turned off). When you choose to open a link, it opens in your default web browser; the app itself does not load the page or show previews.
• No accounts, analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking or crash reports.
• It does not share data with third parties.

Microsoft Store

If you get MegaBuffer from the Microsoft Store, purchases, trials and app updates are handled by Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. The app itself does not receive your payment details.

Deleting your data

• Remove single items from the panel (right-click a card): “Remove from history” hides it and keeps the file; “Delete file” moves it to the Recycle Bin.
• Settings → History & cache: automatic cleanup by age, a cache size limit, and “Clear now”. Cleanup does not delete pinned files or files you dragged into other apps (unless you turn that protection off).
• Uninstalling removes the program but keeps your cache folder and settings, so files used in your projects don’t disappear. Delete the cache folder and %APPDATA%\МегаБуфер manually if you no longer need them.

Children

The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
